Sivo is looking for his forever home
SIVO is an open, intelligent, people-oriented, curious, and cheerful male Kangal who grew up lovingly in a household with dogs, cats, and a large family. He loves people—whether big or small—and being in contact with them. He is very cuddly and attentive.
Sivo is used to living with other dogs (including changing ones), as he grew up in a household with a pack of five permanent female dogs and three rotating members (foster dogs from animal welfare). He knows that new pack members arrive and leave again—even if it is sometimes hard for him, as he has seen a beloved playmate depart more than once. He is always approachable, highly socially competent, open, and welcoming towards new pack members. Size doesn’t matter at all, whether it’s a German Shepherd or a Chihuahua mix.
He is polite and social, and he enjoys playing and romping around. He is a confident boy and wants to be treated with respect; otherwise, he clearly shows his displeasure. When interacting with people and other animals, he is gentle and a pleasant housemate. He can climb stairs and can also be left alone temporarily with the other dogs.
Sivo loves our walks, though he can become quite loud on the leash out of frustration when encountering other dogs (if he cannot go over to the other dog). His displeasure is then directed at the person preventing him from doing so—i.e., the “upper end of the leash”. But even then, he behaves fairly and doesn’t escalate excessively.
True to his breed, he needs a home and people who understand him and can meet his needs.
For our boy, we are looking for a loving home experienced with livestock guardian dogs, with close family integration and dog companionship in a rural environment. He needs sufficient space and a species-appropriate task: e.g., a property he can watch over or a small herd of goats.

Sivo at a vacation foster home
During our vacation, he also stayed at another very competent foster home, where he lived with a 5-year-old neutered livestock guardian mix. He left the following impression there:
Sivo is an intelligent, young male. At home, after some initial homesickness and escape attempts, he shows himself to be calm and unagitated. He accepts rules, but if there is a lack of consistency, he gradually softens them step by step. In contact with our 5-year-old, rather rough male, he repeatedly tested boundaries over the four weeks and actively sought confrontations—especially regarding resources. However, after a confrontation ended, he was usually the one who sought friendly contact again. Caution is required during feeding, as he tends to show food aggression toward other dogs. He also initiated minor conflicts with me, which, however, could be resolved with calmness and inner strength. He cannot yet stay alone in unfamiliar places, not even with our male dog.
He liked lying in the garden and showed typical territorial behavior there, but he could be quickly reined in. On walks, he shows hunting ambitions, but he is especially interested in conspecifics (other dogs). The frustration of not being able to reach them is sometimes redirected at the person holding the leash. Interrupting this behavior is not yet currently possible. He is food-motivated when learning.
Combing, visiting the vet, putting him on a leash, etc., are absolutely no problem. He understands leash walking quickly. Free roaming on a drag line works well. He seeks and enjoys physical closeness to humans. Riding in a car still causes him great anxiety. He is exceptionally friendly toward people.
Sivo needs a well-fenced area, people who are aware of their body language and emotions, and who are ready to take on a leadership role for him. Other dogs would be an advantage because he loves being in contact with his own kind. Note: This assessment is currently based on a 1-year-old dog over a 4-week period. Kangals typically only reach puberty at 3-4 years old, and behaviors can still vary again then.
Sivo at the Vet
At the vet, Sivo is unagitated and open. He has no fear of being touched and is very cooperative regarding examinations of his ears, muzzle, or chest, for example. He endured his vaccination without complaint. Typical for a livestock guardian dog, he didn’t find the offered treat particularly interesting. The final trip to the scale was also no problem.
